Excella Papers LLP exists for one reason: gypsum board manufacturers need a facing paper that behaves the same way, roll after roll, container after container. We import and distribute board-grade paper — sourced from established paper mills across the world known for consistent basis weight and clean printability — and hold it to the same specification every single time.
We don't manufacture paper. We do the part manufacturers usually wish someone else would handle — vetting the mill, testing every consignment, managing the shipping and customs, and keeping stock ready so your production line never waits on a roll.

What's actually inside a sheet of gypsum board
A finished board is really three materials laminated together under pressure. Hover each layer below to see what it does and where our paper fits.
Every board grade starts as two continuous paper webs. As the gypsum slurry is cast, the face and back liners are folded in from either side and bonded to the core as it sets — the paper isn't glued on afterward, it's part of the board's structure from the moment it's formed.
That's why the paper's own properties matter so much: its grammage controls surface strength and how well it takes paint or texture, its sizing controls how it bonds to the gypsum, and its additives determine whether the finished board resists fire, moisture, or neither.

In gypsum board manufacturing, paper colour isn't decoration — it's a spec at a glance. Here's what we keep in stock.
Ivory Face Paper
The board's visible surface. Bright, smooth and evenly sized so it takes paint, texture and print with no bleed-through or fibre lift.
Back Liner Paper
The unseen structural layer. Higher tear strength keeps the reverse face from cracking during handling, transport and installation.
Fire-Resistant Liner
Used on both faces of fire-rated board lines. The light red tint gives inspectors and installers an instant visual check on site.
Moisture-Resistant Liner
Specially sized to resist humidity, making it the standard choice for bathrooms, kitchens and other high-moisture interiors.
Waterproof Liner
A step beyond moisture resistance — both core and paper are treated to shed direct water contact, for boards used in areas exposed to more than just humidity.

The same continuous line turns a raw paper roll and gypsum slurry into the finished, paintable board.
Paper unwinds, gypsum slurry is cast
Face and back liners are fed continuously from their rolls while calcium-sulfate slurry is metered and spread evenly across the moving web.
Lamination & forming
The slurry is sandwiched between the two liners, folded and pressed to the target board thickness — this is where the paper bonds permanently to the core.
Setting & cutting
The board travels down a knife line while the gypsum core chemically sets, then is cut to standard sheet lengths.
Drying
Sheets pass through a multi-zone dryer that removes excess moisture without over-drying the paper facing, which would weaken adhesion.
Trimming & grading
Edges are trimmed square, and each sheet is inspected for surface finish, bond strength and squareness before palletising.
On site: cut, fix, finish
Installers score and snap boards along the paper face, screw them to the frame, then tape and skim the joints ready for paint.
